How do I know when my Rainwater Tank will be delivered?

Delivery Process FAQ Our logistics department will be in contact with you 7 days prior to delivery to:

Confirm your delivery address
Advise you of the access guidelines for delivery to your property
Confirm if you will be onsite when the delivery arrives

In addition to this, we will require a flat area of 5 metres by 5 metres at your property to safely unload the tank. Please ensure this area is clear and accessible upon delivery. This is essential to avoid any delays or complications during the unloading process. We can also offer a courtesy call prior to your delivery if required.

What fittings will my tank come with?

All Polymaster tanks have standard fittings when purchased. These fittings vary slightly according to our different tank ranges. Our Premium Corrugated tanks and Slendastyle tanks come standard with:

Inlet with leaf screen/strainer
1 x 90mm overflow
1 x brass outlet
1 x brass ball valve

Our Smooth Wall tanks and Polychoice slim tanks come standard with:

Inlet and leaf screen/strainer
1 x 90mm overflow
1 x brass outlet

The outlets and ball valves also can vary in size depending on the size of the tank:

200ltr – 5,000ltr tanks = 1” (25mm) outlet & ball valve
7,100ltr – 50,000ltr tanks = 1 ½” (40mm) outlet & ball vale

The brass outlet will always be fitted to the tank and fitted with the protection thread cap. The ball valve is supplied loose, unless specified otherwise. Other fittings are available upon request.

What is the cost to deliver my tank to site?

Polymaster offers free 'delivery to site' in all Victoria.
Polymaster offers free 'delivery to site' to parts of South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland for tanks over 13,000ltr – 50,000ltr tanks (remote areas excluded).
For tanks smaller than 13,000L, there is a $110 exc GST charge to 'deliver to site'.
For all rainwater tanks, delivery is free to the closest Polymaster 'distributor store' within these areas.
The areas covered in South Australia and New South Wales are the southern parts - covering from about Corryong on the Victorian/NSW border up to Yass, across to Hillston and up to Broken Hill, then down to Mildura. From Broken Hill, across the SA border to Orroroo, then down to Port Pirie. Anything underneath this in South Australia we cover.
The areas covered in Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales, approximately 450km radius from Ipswich forming a border with the following towns, Bundaberg, Theodore, Roma and St George.
For deliveries to areas 'outside' of; Victoria, Southern South Australia, Southern NSW, and approximately 450km radius from Ipswich QLD, freight is additional.

Our team is ready to assist you with tailored delivery solutions to meet your needs. *Zone 1 Special Conditions: Delivery is free for tanks exceeding 13,000 litres. Most smaller items have free delivery to your local Polymaster Distributor, ensuring easy access and quick availability.

All Chemical Tanks and Engineered Solutions have freight costs calculated on a per project basis.

What type of base does my tank need to sit on?

The foundation that your tank sits on is critical to ensure that it is supported adequately without the risk of causing fatigue to the tank and potential failure. To correctly install your rainwater tank, it must be placed on a firm, level and flat base, free from any rocks, stones and sharp edges. A concrete pad is recommended, however, a compacted sand base or other consolidated fill such as crusher dust is also suitable. The base must be thoroughly compacted and be exactly level and flat in all directions and should be 75-100mm deep and at least 600mm larger in diameter than the tank base. The outsides of the base must be supported by a retaining wall of some kind to ensure that no erosion can occur through washout, vermin or any other factor. Failure to provide a stable base will void the warranty. It is important to check the base on an annual basis to ensure it hasn’t eroded, as this may affect the structure of the tanks. If the foundation is not concrete, it’s ideal to have a roof structure over the tank for drainage - Consult the Installation and Operation Manual of the manufacturer for more details. If you have a chemical tank the slab needs to be engineered to support the weight of the tank without flexing or breaking.

What property access is required for delivery?

Important Delivery Information for Your Tank Due to the size of our tanks, our truckloads can be quite large and long. We take the safety of delivering your tank very seriously, which is why we've established clear guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe delivery.

The clearance required for the truck and trailer is 19 metres long, 5 metres high, and 3.5 metres wide.
Please ensure there are no low-hanging branches or powerlines in the delivery area.
Make sure the gate or entrance is wide enough, and there is sufficient turning space for the 19-metre-long truck and trailer (about the size of a standard roundabout).
We require a 5 metre by 5 metre flat area to safely unload the tank.

How often should rainwater tanks be cleaned?

Routine water tank care is simple: clear gutters, leaf screens, and first-flush diverters every six months to stop debris from entering the tank. Inspect the internal base every two to three years; if you spot a layer of sludge, pump out and hose down the floor, then disinfect if the tank supplies drinking water. Sticking to this cycle keeps stored water fresh and preserves the long-term integrity of your poly water tank.

What is the difference between a rainwater tank and a stormwater tank?

A rainwater (retention) tank captures roof runoff for ongoing use; ideal for irrigation, household appliances, and firefighting reserves. A stormwater (detention) tank only holds peak flows after heavy rain, then releases them slowly through an orifice to protect council drains; no long-term storage is intended. Many builders now specify combination retention/detention systems, and Polymaster supplies certified solutions for both requirements.

Should you drain your water tank every year?

No. Fully emptying a tank annually wastes precious water and isn’t necessary for maintenance. Instead, follow the 2–3-year sediment check outlined in our helpful blog on water tank cleaning. Drain only when a clean-out is due, fittings are being upgraded or local council health rules demand it. Well-maintained polyethylene water tanks stay clean without frequent emptying.

What size rainwater tank do I need for my garden?

Start with these easy rules of thumb, then fine-tune using your local rainfall and roof catchment:

Courtyard pots and herbs – a slimline tank around 1,000 L keeps small planters thriving.
Compact veggie patch (up to 50 m²) – step up to a 2,000–3,000 L round or slimline tank for reliable irrigation.
Family lawn and mixed beds (100 m² or more) – look at a 5,000 L (or larger) round tank to cover regular watering.

For a precise figure, multiply your available roof area (in m²) by your postcode’s average annual rainfall (in mm), then divide by how many times you expect to empty and refill the tank each year.
