Victorian Drought Grants: Expanded Support for Farmers

The Victorian Government has rolled out a $67.2 million drought support package, including the On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants programme, to help farmers manage ongoing dry conditions and build long-term resilience. As of May 2025, this programme has been extended to all Victorian Local Government Areas (LGAs), making more farmers eligible for funding to upgrade on-farm infrastructure.

Key Features of the On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants:
  • Funding Amount: Up to $5,000 (excluding GST) for eligible primary producers across Victoria, with an increased amount of up to $10,000 available in 11 south-west LGAs and parts of West Wimmera (postcodes 3312, 3317, 3318, 3319).
  • Co-Contribution: Grants require a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution from farmers.

    • Stock containment areas (e.g., fencing, gates, livestock feeders).
    • Grain and fodder storage solutions.

    • Expanded support for water carting and pasture re-establishment.
  • Application Process: Administered by Rural Finance on behalf of the Victorian Government. Applications are processed in order of receipt and will close when funds are fully allocated.
