CLIENT BACKGROUND
Airservices is a government owned organisation providing safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible services to the aviation industry.
The Melbourne International Airport, commonly known as the Tullamarine airport, is the primary airport serving the city of Melbourne, and the second busiest airport in Australia. It was opened in 1970 as traffic outgrew the nearby Essendon Airport.
PROJECT REQUIREMENT
Airservices Australia was needing a company that could provide a large capacity, single-unit self-bunded storage solution for fire retardant foam for the Melbourne International Airport. This storage solution was required to be connected up to a pump set for filling onsite fire tankers, along with several other specific constraints.
Airservices has to have fire retardant foam ready on the airstrip in case of an emergency, and wanted a storage solution for this chemical they could put their confidence in.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
Polymaster designed and manufactured a 13,000L self-bunded storage tank to comply with relevant Australian Standards. Custom modifications and nozzle penetrations were welded into the tank to suit the onsite pumping and delivery assembly. A major focus on safety due to the airside location of final installation. These products were made to strict project timelines.
