Bore Water Tanks
A bore pump delivers water from underground into a storage tank at the surface, where it is held until needed for household supply, stock water, irrigation, or other property uses. A bore water tank is simply the storage vessel in that system – a round poly tank sized and positioned to accept bore pump output and hold it until you draw it down.
Polymaster’s round water tank range is well suited to bore water storage. The corrugated RWT range and the smooth wall PCR range are both available in capacities suited to typical bore water storage requirements, manufactured from UV-stabilised polyethylene, and built to perform across Australian conditions. Tanks can be interconnected to increase total holding capacity as bore yield or property demand grows.

HOW BORE WATER STORAGE WORKS
How Bore Water Storage Works
A bore water system has two core components: the pump and the storage tank. The bore pump sits at the base of the borehole and lifts water to the surface, typically at a slower rate than your property demands at peak use. The storage tank sits at the surface and buffers that yield – collecting water continuously from the bore pump and holding it until you need it.
This buffer is what makes a bore water system practical. Without a storage tank, you would be drawing directly on bore pump output, which may not match your peak demand. With a correctly sized storage tank, your pump fills the tank gradually over the day, and you draw from the tank at whatever rate your property needs.
Tank sizing follows from bore pump output and daily property demand. A property drawing 2,000L per day with a bore pump producing 200L per hour needs enough tank capacity to cover demand on low-yield days and provide a buffer for maintenance or pump downtime. BORE WATER TANK APPLICATIONS
What Is Bore Water Used For
Bore water is used across a wide range of rural, agricultural, and residential applications. The common thread is that bore water is not connected to mains supply – the property is drawing on underground water, and the storage tank is what makes that supply practical at daily use rates.
Household Supply on Rural Properties
Many rural properties rely on bore water as their sole water supply.
A correctly sized storage tank buffers bore pump output against peak household demand, covering toilets, laundry, garden irrigation, and – where water treatment is in place – drinking water.
Tank size is typically determined by daily household demand plus a multi-day buffer for pump downtime or low-yield periods.
Stock Water
Bore water is commonly used for livestock watering on farms and rural properties.
Storage tanks allow bore pump output to accumulate between watering sessions, ensuring consistent supply for cattle, sheep, and other stock without needing the pump to run continuously.
Tanks can be positioned near stock yards and interconnected for larger operations.
Irrigation
For properties irrigating pasture, orchards, or market gardens from bore water, a storage tank decouples irrigation demand from bore pump output.
Rather than irrigating directly from the bore at pump flow rate, the tank accumulates water and allows irrigation at the rate and volume the property needs.
This is particularly useful where irrigation schedules differ from bore pump run times.
DELIVERY AND DISTRIBUTION
Delivery Across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland
Polymaster delivers pipeline tanks direct to your property or to your nearest stockist, with over 1,600 agricultural and plumbing stores across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and South East Queensland. Call us on 1800 062 064 and we will point you to your nearest one.
Zone 1 - Free Delivery
Our Zone 1 coverage includes Victoria, Southern New South Wales, South Australia, South East Queensland and North East New South Wales. Within this zone, delivery is free for tanks exceeding 13,000L. For tanks under that, a $165 inc GST charge applies to deliver to site.
Zone 2 - Delivery Charges Apply
For locations outside Zone 1, charges apply based on your location. Contact our team for a tailored quote.
Preparing Your Site
Truck and trailer clearance required is 19 metres long, 5 metres high, and 3.5 metres wide. Check for low branches or powerlines on your access route and ensure your gate and entrance can accommodate a 19m truck and trailer. A flat, clear area of at least 5 metres by 5 metres is required for unloading. Our logistics team will contact you approximately seven days before delivery to confirm your address and access requirements.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about bore water storage, tank selection, and pump compatibility.
What tank is best for bore water storage?
A round poly tank is the most practical choice for bore water storage in most Australian rural and residential applications. Polymaster’s corrugated RWT range and smooth wall PCR range are both suitable and are available in capacities from 200L through to 50,000L to match bore pump output and property demand. The right capacity depends on your bore yield (litres per hour), daily demand, and how many days of buffer you want to carry. Contact our team to work through the right size for your bore setup.
Does bore water damage poly tanks?
Polymaster’s UV-stabilised polyethylene tanks are designed for long-term outdoor water storage and are not affected by the typical mineral content of bore water. Bore water that is high in iron or other minerals may cause staining on tank walls over time, but this is a cosmetic issue that does not affect tank integrity or water quality. If your bore water has unusual chemistry – very high mineral content, high pH, or other characteristics outside the norm – contact our team to confirm suitability before ordering.
What pump works with a bore water tank?
The bore pump sits underground in the borehole and delivers water to the surface storage tank. The storage tank then connects to a separate pressure pump that delivers water from the tank into your household or property water system. These are two separate pumps with different roles. Polymaster supplies the storage tank; the bore pump and pressure pump are typically supplied and installed by a bore drilling or pump specialist. Contact our team if you need a referral or guidance on compatible pump configurations for your property.
How big should my bore water tank be?
A useful starting point is to calculate your daily property demand in litres, then multiply by the number of days of buffer you want to carry. For a family home using around 1,000L per day, a 5,000L to 9,000L tank gives 5 to 9 days of buffer. For a rural property with stock water and irrigation demand, the calculation is higher. Bear in mind that your tank also needs to match your bore pump yield – a very slow bore pump may not fill a large tank in a useful timeframe. Our team can help you work through the numbers for your specific bore and property. Call us on 1800 062 064.
Can I interconnect multiple bore water tanks?
Yes. Every Polymaster round tank can be interconnected with other tanks to increase total holding capacity. This is a practical option for properties where a single tank is not large enough to buffer bore pump output against peak demand, and where space or delivery constraints make a single large-volume tank impractical. Interconnected tanks fill and draw as a single system. Contact our team to discuss the right configuration for your property.
