Ideal Solutions for Chemical Storage
Polymaster chemical storage tanks are not rainwater tanks. They are vastly different, with unique polymers used to safely store aggressive chemicals.
The manufacturing and QA process captures the expertise of a highly technical team, and we provide a 25 year design life on the tank. Every chemical and wastewater tank with sidewall fittings is hydro tested at the factory for six hours before it leaves us, so it arrives leak-proof rather than hopefully leak-proof.
How to Choose a Chemical Storage Tank
Four things decide the specification, and getting any of them wrong is expensive.
Chemical Compatibility
What you are storing, and at what concentration. Different polymers behave differently against different chemicals, and a tank that handles one acid may not handle another. Compatibility is confirmed against our chemical compatibility chart before anything is quoted.
Specific Gravity
Chemicals are heavier than water. A tank rated for water is under-specified for a liquid at 1.5SG by half again. Polymaster tanks are rated 1.0SG through to 2.0SG, and the rating is matched to the chemical rather than the volume.
Bunding and Containment
AS 3780:2023 requires secondary containment for corrosive substances. That can be a concrete bund built on site, or a self bunded tank with the containment built in. The second is usually faster and takes less ground.
Fittings and Fit-Out
Outlets, valves, level indication, venting and access all have to suit the chemical as well as the tank. A fitting specified for water will fail against a chemical long before the tank does.

Unmatched Chemical Compatibility
We understand chemicals, which is why our chemical storage tanks undertake compatibility testing to make sure the specially formulated PE material will safely contain the chemicals actually in use across Australian industry.

Safe, Compliant and Durable Chemical Storage
At Polymaster we do not just supply tanks. We engineer certified chemical storage built for safety, compliance and long term performance.
- Certified to AS/NZS 4766:2020. Every polyethylene chemical tank meets the Australian standard for polyethylene storage tanks. Licence numbers BMP657671 and BMP650824.
- Specialist expertise. Our in-house engineers understand the technical requirements of chemical storage and the behaviour of PE materials under load and attack.
- Fit for purpose design. We match each tank to your specified chemicals rather than selling you a container and hoping.
- Built to last. Designed for the right lifespan, low maintenance and the durability Australian conditions demand.
Customised Liquid Storage Solutions
When you have a complex problem you need a custom solution. Our engineers take the time to understand what you are storing, how it moves and what the site demands, then develop something that solves the problem rather than working around it.
Our chemical storage tanks are used across industry, including:
- Water Utilities
- Mining
- Chemical Manufacturers
- Food and Beverage
- Wastewater Treatment
- Transport
- Civil Contracting
Highest Quality and Standards
Food Grade
Food grade polyethylene certified to AS/NZS 4020, the Australian standard for products in contact with drinking water.
Quality Assurance
Polymaster holds ISO 9001 certification, the international standard for quality management systems.
Product Certification
Certified to AS/NZS 4766:2020 for polyethylene storage tanks.
“We’ve been really happy with our Polymaster chemical storage tank. The polyethylene construction is robust, it’s designed for Australian conditions and having the chemical compatibility checked gave us confidence we were using the right tank for the job. The team also made the whole process straightforward from selection through to installation.”
“We needed a reliable storage solution for aggressive chemicals and the Polymaster tank ticked all the boxes. The self-bunded design gave us the secondary containment we needed without having to build a separate concrete bund, and the 110% bund capacity provides extra peace of mind. It’s a well-engineered product that’s built for the long term.”

FAQs
FAQs About Our Chemical Tanks
Do your chemical tanks meet Australian safety standards?
Yes. Polymaster chemical storage tanks are certified to AS/NZS 4766:2020 and designed to safely store a wide range of industrial and agricultural chemicals. Every tank with sidewall fittings undergoes six hours of hydro testing at the factory before dispatch.
What chemicals can be stored in Polymaster tanks?
More than 1,965, including sulphuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, magnesium hydroxide and fertilisers. Compatibility testing confirms the right material for your chemical and concentration before anything is quoted.
What is specific gravity and why does it matter?
Specific gravity is the density of a liquid relative to water. Water is 1.0 and many chemicals are considerably heavier. A tank rated for water is under-specified for a liquid at 1.5SG, because the wall carries more load for the same volume. Polymaster tanks are rated from 1.0SG to 2.0SG and the rating is matched to the chemical.
What is the difference between a single walled and a self bunded tank?
A single walled tank holds the chemical and nothing else, so the site needs separate containment. A self bunded tank is a tank within a tank, with the containment built in and rated to hold the inner volume. It arrives ready, needs no concrete bund constructed on site, and takes less ground.
Do I need a bund?
If you are storing corrosive substances, yes. AS 3780:2023 requires secondary containment. Whether that is a concrete bund or a self bunded tank depends on the site, but the requirement itself is not optional.
Can Polymaster custom design chemical tanks for specific applications?
Yes. Our engineering team can custom design tanks with fittings, dosing systems and bunding to meet specific site requirements.
What is the lifespan of a Polymaster chemical tank?
Built from UV stabilised, corrosion resistant polyethylene with a 25 year design life.
What industries use Polymaster chemical tanks?
Water utilities, mining, chemical manufacturing, food and beverage, wastewater treatment, transport and civil contracting.
