CLIENT BACKGROUND
The Rio Tinto Hail Creek Coal Mine is located within the Bowen Basin at Hail Creek in Central Queensland, Australia. The mine has coal reserves amounting to 970 million tonnes of coking coal, one of the largest coal reserves the world. Hail Creek Mine is an open cut mine, using a dragline, truck and shovel method.
PROJECT REQUIREMENT
Our client needed a solution for an easily installed coagulant tank without any major construction works, whilst keeping footprint to a minimum. The client wished to be able to reconfigure the system differently at a later date if required, and another prerequisite was weatherproofing, as an open top bund would fill with water. The remote mine site required UV-resistant material to cope with the harsh Australian climate.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
Polymaster’s self-bunded tanks were selected as the ideal solution. Easily installed without any major construction works, the self-bunded tanks are joined using dual-contained pipework, maintaining a minimum of 110% bunded capacity for all tanks and interconnecting pipework whilst enabling the project to stay within budgetary requirements. These UV-resistant and weatherproof Chemical Self Bunded tanks have a 25 year design-life, and can handle even the harshest climatic conditions that will be experienced on this site. Additionally, cabinets and controls were supplied to enable dosing systems to be installed by a third-party contractor.
