Grease Arrestor Applications
Where Are Grease Arrestors Used?
Commercial kitchens and food businesses must pre-treat trade waste before it reaches the sewer. Polymaster’s range covers cafés, restaurants, pubs, clubs and institutional kitchens.
Cafés, Restaurants and Takeaway
The everyday fit-out. Food premises need a grease arrestor before trade waste can connect to the sewer.
Your water authority sets the minimum size, and you choose the GT model that meets it.
Pubs and Clubs
Bigger kitchens, more fixtures, more flow.
The GT4000 gives 4,000L of operational capacity for higher-volume kitchens, where the authority’s sizing calls for it.
Institutional Kitchens
Aged care, childcare and school kitchens.
On larger developments with a hydraulic consultant, named GT models come with drawings, a design compliance statement, certification and test records to support the specification.
Regional Food Businesses
Bakeries, service stations and roadhouses in regional and peri-urban towns.
The baffle and connections come factory-fitted and it’s delivered by our own fleet, so the job doesn’t stall over a missing part a fair way from anywhere.

Switching from concrete?
Where a site is still designed around precast concrete, a 240kg to 340kg poly unit goes in without a crane, and polyethylene resists the acid attack that eats concrete traps.
I've waited a long time for Polymaster to start selling grease traps. I know it's going to be as easy as their septics.” - Parkside Plumbing
How a Grease Arrestor Job Runs
A typical below-ground grease arrestor job, from sizing through to servicing.
Step 1 — Size to the Water Authority's Calculation
Each authority sizes grease arrestors from the fixtures connected or the peak flow. Choose the GT model that meets its minimum. Don’t oversize just to be safe. A trap that’s too big for the flow can sit stagnant and smell.
Step 2 — Lodge the Trade Waste Application
Attach the drawings, design compliance statement, certification and test records. Check compliance with your local water utility before installation.
Step 3 — Order Through Your Plumbing Reseller
Standard models, so there’s no customisation to wait on. Our own project team is behind every order, through the application, delivery and installation.
Step 4 — Delivery to Site
Made in our own factory and delivered by our own fleet, with delivery to site.
Step 5 — Excavation and Placement
Excavate to local and NCC requirements. At approx. 240kg to 340kg, the unit goes in without a crane.
Step 6 — Risers and Lids
Fit optional risers (up to 550mm), cut to length to suit the installation. Fit a Class D heavy-duty lid where the area is trafficable.
Step 7 — Connections and Venting
Connect the 100mm inlet and outlet using the supplied uniseals. Run the vent from the 50mm vent fitting to above the roof line. Fit the disconnector gully, backflow prevention where required, and the final sewer connection.
Step 8 — Inspection and Pump-Out
The capacity decal and stainless steel ID plate let inspectors confirm the unit on site. The business has it pumped out by a licensed liquid waste contractor on the schedule set in its trade waste agreement.
Polymaster Grease Arrestors must be installed underground by a licensed plumber in line with the latest AS 4766, local authority requirements and Polymaster’s installation guidelines for underground tanks. Final sewer connection and vents are to water authority requirements.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Polymaster’s grease arrestor range, from sizing and approval through to installation and servicing.
What's the difference between a grease arrestor and a grease trap?
They’re the same thing. Grease arrestor is the term water authorities use, and it’s our product name. Most plumbers and business owners call it a grease trap, so we use both.
Is it approved for trade waste?
It’s built to an approved design. Approval for each installation comes from the local water authority through the plumber’s trade waste application, and the drawings, design compliance statement, certification and test records are ready to attach.
Why choose Polymaster over other poly grease arrestors?
It’s built to an approved design on a certified, witness-tested tank platform, and priced below the other poly grease arrestor brands. You buy it through your local plumbing reseller, backed by the people who design, make and deliver it, so you’ve got a team to call from enquiry through to installation.
Which size do I need?
The water authority sets it. Each authority sizes grease arrestors from the fixtures connected or the peak flow, and you choose the model that meets its minimum: GT2000 (2,000L), GT3000 (3,000L) or GT4000 (4,000L). Don’t oversize just to be safe. A trap that’s too big for the flow can sit stagnant and smell.
Is poly really as strong as concrete underground?
Yes. The tank platform is certified to AS/NZS 1546.1:2008 and has been independently assessed by finite element analysis for soil loading. It’s passed witness testing too, including 510kg on the lid for an hour with no deflection, plus water tightness and lateral load testing. It’s backed by a 10-year warranty.
Can it go under a driveway or car park?
The standard poly lid suits pedestrian and non-trafficable areas. For driveways and car parks, fit the Class D heavy-duty lid (available as an accessory) or an independently supported trafficable cover, as the site’s hydraulic design requires.
What's supplied, and what does the plumber provide?
Supplied: the tank with factory-fitted baffle, 100mm inlet and outlet, uniseals, access lids, air-tight screw cap, vent fitting, capacity decal and stainless steel ID plate.
Optional: risers (up to 550mm) and a Class D lid. The plumber provides the vent pipework to above the roof line (air admittance valves aren’t permitted), the disconnector gully, backflow prevention where required, and the final sewer connection, all to the local water authority’s requirements.
Does it need power, chemicals or maintenance?
No power, no chemicals and no moving parts. It separates by design. The business has it pumped out by a licensed liquid waste contractor on the schedule set in its trade waste agreement.
How do I order one?
Through your local Polymaster plumbing reseller. They’re standard models, so there’s no customisation to wait on. Polymaster delivers with its own fleet. Within Zone 1, delivery is free to your local reseller’s store, or $165 inc GST to site (see the delivery map).
