CLIENT BACKGROUND
Maeil Dairies has made its first investment into the Australian market through the construction of a nutritional powder facility in North Geelong.
This will be the first manufacturing facility outside of Korea. Maeil Australia is a subsidiary of Maeil Dairies, a major dairy and food company with headquarters in Korea. Maeil Australia have invested approximately $34 million in this project to date with further investments being considered as part of potential growth plans.
The investment is a significant outcome for Geelong and the broader farming community in Victoria. The build will create more than 150 construction jobs with more jobs required for operating the plant.
They plan to use the Geelong site as a base to expand the company’s Australian footprint and launch into new Asian markets. This will provide local dairy farmers with more supply options.
PROJECT REQUIREMENT
Several clean in place (CIP) systems were present in the processing infrastructure. Maeil Dairies engaged with IXOM, a supplier of chemicals for cleaning, who then approach Polymaster for storage for the new chemical.
Cleaning in place (CIP) involves automatic cleaning and sanitising without major disassembly of processing equipment. The system consists of chemicals, equipment, pipework and automatic controllers that manage the circulation of cleaning and sanitation agents through the food equipment and pipework. As this plant produces milk powder and processes milk, they needed tanks for chemical storage and dosing to maintain the operating equipment in optimum condition.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
Polymaster worked with IXOM to provide 2 self-bunded chemical tanks with dosing cabinets to store and dose the Sodium Hydroxide and Nitric Acid for the CIP system. In a CIP system, cleaning solutions include various types of detergents, sanitizers and disinfectants which may be alkali or acid.
Common alkali detergents include;
- Sodium Hydroxide
- Potassium Hydroxide
- Sodium Carbonate
Acid detergents include;
- Hydrochloric Acid
- Nitric Acid
- Phosphoric Acid
- Citric acid.
